“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” – Mother Teresa

The main cause of death worldwide is hunger. Despite the abundant resources our planet has given us, millions of people are undernourished due to unequal access and ineffective management. We can support the entire world’s population and ensure that no one will ever experience hunger again if we encourage sustainable agriculture using contemporary technologies and equitable distribution mechanisms. Everybody wants to provide adequate nutritious meals for their families. The economics, health, education, equality, and social progress of the world can all benefit from ending hunger.

“Zero Hunger” was a remarkable endeavor put forward by the Rotaract Club of DSPSR-India in cooperation with the Rotaract Club of  BPIT, Rotaract Club of IGDTUW, Rotaract Club of Querencia (3011), Rotaract Club of Physiotherapy scholars, Rotaract club of  Rotaract Club Of Apeejay Stya University Gurugram (3011), Rotaract Club of Bhavnagar Youth (3060), Rotaract Club of Colombo Central (3220), Rotaract Club of Visionaries League, Rotaract Club of Chennai Syerngy Kin and  Rotaract Club of Ignited Youth.

The initiative was aimed at providing a meal to those of the more deprived communities who were unable to find a staple daily meal for themselves and was carried out over the span of three days. Three members from each club were allocated to distribute parcels of food to the less fortunate on each day, in three different regions and the Central family managed to donate 50 packs of food over the three days.

Zero Hunger was a community service project with the underlying motives of providing a nutritious meal to members of the underprivileged community who were not able to afford it for themselves as well as raising awareness on food loss and wastage. It was a tiny step towards eradicating malnutrition and poverty, encouraging the general public to also follow the same and join hands with us on this worthy cause.

Zero Hunger was not just an effort to end someone’s hunger for a day. It aimed to pave the way towards achieving other impactful outcomes such as providing a wholesome meal, encouraging joy and kindness, building fellowship among the foreign clubs hosting the event, forging enduring bonds of friendship between clubs, and enhancing the presence and reputation of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central on the global stage as well.

It was a happy and satisfied bunch of Rotaractors that went their separate ways after the project was completed, joyful at the belief that they just added brightness to the life of another, even for a short moment in time….
