The 23rd of July would have been a typical day for the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central (RACCC) if not for the annual Avenue Director’s Training program, where the board of directors had the chance to acclimate to their key roles and responsibilities. The club got a head start to the day by meeting up at the Arcade Independence Square for a fun photoshoot in preparation for the most important day of the RI calendar – none other than their fifth Installation Ceremony of course!
With the ceremony just days away, the board of directors finally got the chance to meet each other in person and break the ice effortlessly. After the lock-down period due to the pandemic it was a refreshing start to the new RI year at Colombo Central, to be able to meet physically and to get to know each other better.
After many clicks, introductions, jokes and laughs at absolutely anything and everything, the group huddled into the Embazzy, Colombo where Rtr. Sachindra Mendis, Vice president of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central introduced the Rotaract movement (which began in 1968 – as was vehemently emphasized by Sachindra many times during his speech!) and what it stands for, all while indulging in a merry lunch.
The avenue directors got a chance to formally introduce themselves and gain insight into all that is in store for them in their Rotaract journey ahead. They were briefed about the impact of the work they were about to take up and the ins and outs of the roles and responsibilities that fall to each avenue. Gracing the event was Past Vice President Rtr. Pasan De Silva, who offered words of advice, sharing his experience as a Rotaractor on the Dos and Don’ts as an office bearer of the club. The day came to end with more food and fun at the Cricket Club Café, with newfound friends that soon turned into a family sharing a common goal in the spirit of service.
